Stress in High Pressure Work Environments
Overview
Many professions today demand high performance
under the pressure of shifting priorities, deadlines, and
crises. Insufficient resources such as funds, well-trained
people, and information may make the situation even more
difficult. Being in these conditions produces physical and
mental stress. This can lead to lowered productivity,
decreased decision making capability, poor communication,
and increased absenteeism and illness. Learning to manage
stress effectively is crucial to the health of the
individual as well as the organization. In this
presentation you will learn to recognize the symptoms of
stress, and identify its physical and psychological
consequences. You will also learn and practice the skills
needed to improve your ability to manage stress—and
increase your productivity.
Objectives
Define stress, identify it’s causes, and learn
what you can do to reduce it; identify stress-related
health and work concerns; measure your stress level; and
select specific stress reduction techniques to improve your
ability to reduce and manage stress. In a Learning Summary,
decide upon key points to remember. and select action steps
for using this information in practical and immediate ways.

This training includes experiential learning,
conceptual information, discussion, visuals, and group
interaction designed to teach and integrate the concepts.
